Chocolate mousse and tiramisu have already captured the hearts of the French in the dessert category. In other words, chocolate dominates in this sector. What about pastries? On the occasion of the 2023 edition of the Salon de la Pâtisserie to be held this weekend, a recent OpinionWay survey looked at the tastes of the French in this area.

The inhabitants of France are still very sensitive when it comes to pastries. Despite plummeting purchasing power, 57% of French people buy it at least once a month. Suffice to say that the business sector is not weakening. The budget meanwhile, is only 3.80 euros on average, with only 11% of foodies surveyed ready to put more than 5 euros in a creation. For their part, young people (those under 25), on the other hand, seem more willing to put their hands in their pockets to afford designs from big names or recognized establishments, now mostly well established in mainland France. Nearly 26% of people under 25 are ready to afford this more or less affordable little luxury.

In addition, nearly 80% of those surveyed admit to taking great pleasure in creating their own pastries. And the shots take a big hit. Indeed, those under 25 are even more numerous than seniors when it comes to indulging in this practice (87% against 75%). Men are now almost as much as women in the art of pastry, with a rate of 70% against 80% among women. Suffice to say that an equality is established, at least in this area…

Here is the long-awaited ranking of the 10 best French pastries, according to the polling institute OpinionWay.
