Tick-tock, tick-tock… Could it be time for the redesign soon? Rumors swell a little more every day as summer is fast approaching. Emmanuel Macron knows he has to reshuffle a government team which is not working well and which has been multiplying the hiccups for a few weeks. Short sentence, controversy, media absenteeism… The reasons are many and varied, but the observation remains the same. Some ministers take up too much space, while others not enough for the taste of the President of the Republic.

While the reshuffle is (almost) certain according to many observers, it could take different forms. First, Emmanuel Macron could renew his confidence in Elisabeth Borne and keep her in her post as Prime Minister, changing only a few strategic positions. Another option for the president, appoint someone else to Matignon and keep the rest of the government team. Finally, the third possibility: a mixture of the other two, with a change of Prime Minister and certain key positions.

After having decided on this thorny question, Emmanuel Macron will have to provide other answers, in particular with regard to the political edge of his future ministers: should he turn to the right of the political spectrum or remain purely and simply in macronie ? Well-known personalities are mentioned by the media, in particular the President of the Senate Gérard Larcher, the former President Nicolas Sarkozy and even Edouard Philippe, who had left Matignon in 2020. For the time being, nothing filters and Emmanuel Macron could reserve a few surprises.

If he is determined to reshuffle his government, Emmanuel Macron must finally choose the right moment to do so and he does not have many options. Traditionally, a change of government team happens before the summer and the president does not have much time to make up his mind. Quoted by BFMTV, a deputy explains: “It must be finalized before July 14”, or in a month, all stacks. A more precise date would even be currently discussed around the President of the Republic…

Does Emmanuel Macron want to change government? A majority executive assures BFMTV, adding that the reshuffle “will surely take place by the beginning of July. In any case, it is now or in January”. The start of July is just over two weeks away, leaving little time for the executive to sort through their game.

Why so fast? Another source explains to the news channel that “the French must go on vacation with a new well-identified team”. A new team that could be more political and smaller, since the current government has 42 ministers… Many of whom are still unknown to the general public. If Emmanuel Macron has not yet chosen who to appoint to Matignon, he already knows who he does not want to keep at the table of the Council of Ministers.

Several ministers are in the hot seat, because they have not convinced. With BFMTV, a member of the government explains: “We must be a team of attackers, not a team of defenders. Defenders are in calm weather”, which is not the case in political life today . According to information from the channel, three ministers are particularly in danger: Marlène Schiappa, described as “a ball” by an adviser, Pap Ndiaye – too discreet – and François Braun, who would not have known how to embody his function.

As for a change of Prime Minister… Emmanuel Macron would no longer be as sure of himself as before. Her goal is to obtain a larger majority in the National Assembly, which could be difficult with a profile other than that of Elisabeth Borne. By turning to the right, he would risk losing centrist support, but by choosing a macronist, he would have difficulty winning new votes at the Palais Bourbon. One thing is certain, the president will not be able to have everything and will have to make a choice.
