The Local Finance Committee (CFL) has given its favorable opinion on the decree aimed at widening the list of municipalities that will be able to apply an increase in housing tax on second homes. France is at the top of the ranking of European countries with the most second homes on its territory. Indeed, with 3.3 million second homes, including 9.5% of the housing stock identified as second homes, France is the European champion.
According to figures published by the official website data.gouv.fr,”40% of French people would dream of buying a second home, and 13% already have one, according to an Elabe study carried out for Crédit Foncier in 2018.”
