On June 21, 2023, Le Figaro, in collaboration with FigData, revealed the ranking of the most dangerous municipalities in France. Indeed, this study is interested in the facts of delinquency which considerably increased in these small towns. Who tops the top 10? Check it out in our slideshow below.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, there will be approximately 211,800 burglaries in 2022. For intentional assault and battery, the government reports 353,600 over the previous year. But how are they distributed over the territory? Le Figaro dissected the table of the ministry to answer it. To do this, the French daily chose cities with between 5,000 and 20,000 inhabitants. 1,650 municipalities are then counted.

To establish the classification, Le Figaro chose to focus on the facts of burglaries and intentional assault and battery outside the family setting. “Let us add that the population of some 1650 municipalities studied amounts to nearly 15 million people. The houses and apartments located in these towns, these villages, these towns on a human scale, represent more than 7.7 million dwellings”, specify our colleagues. But for these crimes, the result is appalling.

“In terms of violence, first of all, in these territories, more than 32,000 incidents were listed last year, compared to just over 23,000 in 2016”, announces the French daily. Between 2016 and 2022, there is then a 38% increase in offences. But these figures only take into account the facts that have been the subject of a complaint sent to the courts. Moreover, the rate of aggression is also on the rise in these municipalities. It went from 1.72 facts per 1,000 inhabitants in 2016 to 2.32 facts per 1,000 residents in 2022.
