Several batches of Purina One brand cat food have been recalled since July 8, 2022. These products are accused by certain associations of being the cause of vomiting and acute diarrhea in many felines, reports France 3 Hauts-de-France. Kittens would even have died. But no causal link between kibble and these brutal deaths has been officially established.

“A kitten died, she had seen the veterinarian in the morning and was in great shape, explained to our colleagues the president of an association collecting abandoned kittens in the Somme. can’t stop. We tested them and it’s not typhus.” This is confirmed by the president of another association close to Rouen: “I’ve been doing this for more than 20 years, with typhus it’s not as devastating. The veterinarians don’t explain it”.

The two presidents of associations believe that this diarrhea is caused by Purina One croquettes. Both found that all the animals that ate it got sick right after. “When you change kibble, the animal is no longer sick,” they say.

According to the autopsy of a kitten, the death could indeed be due to food poisoning. Contacted by our colleagues, the company does not understand. According to her, a water treatment residue (2-CE) could potentially be present in these batches of croquettes, but would not present a specific danger for cats. This is what is mentioned in the reminder sheets.

As a precaution, the company has decided to recall the affected batches of kibble anyway. A decision considered too late according to the presidents of the two associations. “These croquettes were sold between December and April, we are only warned in July”, they regret.
