The return of fine weather also announces that of flea markets. From the end of March, the first garage sales of the year took place. The spring season is now well underway and should last until the fall. In the context of inflation at the start of 2023, buying second-hand attracts more and more French people who are concerned about their expenses.

With a general price increase of 5.6% over one year for the month of March 2023, according to INSEE, antiquing during “unpacking” is becoming THE good plan. “Unpacking” brings together all the events selling second-hand goods at low prices: flea markets, garage sales, dressing rooms, books or DVDs, clearance sales, flea markets… There is something for all budgets and all tastes. buying or selling desires.

In the flea market aisles, between the trestles and the tables of the exhibitors, buyers wander around, on the lookout for a good deal. Negotiate, buy, sell, empty your cupboards, have fun… There’s something for everyone during flea markets, with bargain prices ranging, on average, from 0.50 cents to 5 euros. “I make [this jacket] at 5 euros. In stores it is sold for 140!” Exclaims Marie Zion, exhibitor at the garage sale in Lisle-sur-Tarn (Tarn) on April 10, 2023 (comments reported by France 3 ).

“Everything is more and more expensive. It allows me to renew. There I try to sell a little, then after I will go buy”, explains Marie Zion on France 3, looking at the stalls around her, covered with toys, dishes and clothes. What better way to empty your cupboards while benefiting others? And what better way to immediately reinvest your earnings in new assets?

Flea markets were already a good plan for students looking for new clothes, large families looking for second-hand toys, but also retirees with low incomes. From now on, visitors to flea markets are more and more numerous and from all walks of life.

With the weight of inflation, buyers are more focused on useful expenses. “People do not come to buy useless things. They come mainly to buy frying pans, saucepans, crockery”, notes Christiane Louvel, exhibitor at the garage sales in Lisle-sur-Tarn (Tarn).
