In January 2022, the singer Florent Pagny revealed through a video shared on his social networks, to be suffering from lung cancer and that he had to, in the process, cancel his concert tour in order to follow “a protocol of six months of chemotherapy and x-rays”. Invited on the set of the television news of TF1, the husband of Azucena Caamaño had then tried to reassure his fans.
“I have a problem that ticks the wrong box at first but then all the other boxes are good. I discovered it very early on. I’ve had it for three to six months. I only have one tumour. I don’t have any metastases, I don’t have anything in other organs…. We can’t operate because it divides very quickly and risks spreading, but today there are real good treatment”, he said in front of Gilles Bouleau.
How did he discover his lung cancer? In his new book titled Florent by Pagny, released in bookstores on April 5, 2023, the interpreter of Knowing how to love confided in the subject, saying that it all started with a cough. “The cough isn’t bad at first. Intermittent, I don’t have a problem with it,” he wrote and continued: “If my cough was the result of overuse of my vocal muscles, it should be s I’m getting better, but that’s not what’s happening. On the contrary, it’s getting worse. It’s especially when I smoke my firecracker that it happens. I’m starting to think that something is wrong. Smoking becomes so unpleasant that I quit. It’s not very difficult, because I have only ever smoked plants with my weed and therefore do not have a nicotine addiction”.
While he thinks he has contracted only “severe bronchitis”, the diagnosis falls, he is suffering from cancer. Stunned by the news, Florent Pagny will decide not to let go as he explained in the rest of his book. “Killing the tumor will be my only agenda. I am no longer a singer, I am no longer a dreamer, I am a man and what is more, a man whose health is threatened”. Even today, the artist is fighting against the disease and has started his third chemotherapy.
