A key role in the career of Brad Pitt. In 2016, the famous actor played for Robert Zemeckis in Allies, where he played Max Vatan the main hero. The latter gave the reply to Marion Cotillard, playing his wife Marianne Beauséjour, the poster for the spy film during the Second World War.

The plot of the movie? “In Casablanca in 1942, the American agent Max Vatan and the French resistance fighter Marianne Beauséjour team up on a perilous mission. Max falls in love with the young woman and offers to follow him to London. There, they marry and start a family. Vatan is convinced that he has found happiness”, tells us the summary of the feature film.

This was without counting the revelations of his hierarchy, informing him that “his wife is in fact a double agent, in the service of the Nazis”. “Vatan is summoned to eliminate Marianne. However, he cannot believe in the guilt of the mother of his child, tries to probe her and will try everything to prove her innocence…”, specifies the synopsis of the film which seduced nearly one million moviegoers in France.

Before the filming of the historic film, Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard had never played together on screen. The opportunity for the Oscar-winning actress thanks to La Môme (in 2008) to discuss their first meeting. “Before the shooting, we had two weeks of preparation together”, she assured according to comments quoted by Télé 7 Jours. “I discovered a good, generous, open-minded man,” says the actress, who has shared numerous red carpets alongside her for the promotion of Allies.

However, the companion of Guillaume Canet is not the only Frenchwoman to have played in a film alongside the ex-husband of Angelina Jolie. Also in Allies, we find the actress Camille Cottin (Ten percent, House of Gucci) in the role of Monique. Other French actors also made an appearance in the film such as Thierry Frémont (playing Paul Delamare) Xavier de Guillebon or Vincent Latorre. But, this is not the only film where we find Brad Pitt alongside other actors and actresses of French cinema.

In 2009, Brad Pitt was cast in another historic film: Quentin Tarantino’s blockbuster Inglourious Basterds. Among the first roles, we discovered the French actress Mélanie Laurent in the role of Shosanna Dreyfus. A young woman of Jewish origin on the run after the massacre of her family by Nazi soldiers.

Six years later, the French star found the American actor on the set of the film Vue sur mer directed by Angelina Jolie, who also plays the leading role. In an interview with The Edit magazine, Mélanie Laurent spoke about the underside of this shoot like no other. “It was hard to play against them when I’m a big fan,” admitted the 30-year-old, quoted by our colleagues from Gala. “She is incredible. Not only is she sublime, but she is also very intelligent and kind. It is not often that you meet a woman like her”.

Asked by Grazia, Mélanie Laurent also remembered filming with these two cinema icons whose film took place in the south of France. “It’s a small set: you have to stop seeing the icons, otherwise you can’t work. And they are very good at making you forget it”. Other French actors have been seen in the film by the ex-couple Brangelina, such as Niels Arestrup, Melvil Poupaud and Richard Bohringer.
