American actress Anne Heche did not survive the terrible car accident that took her to the hospital on Friday August 5, 2022. While driving at high speed in Los Angeles, her vehicle swerved road and very violently hit a house before catching fire. After taking more than an hour to bring the flames under control, Los Angeles firefighters transported Anne Heche to a local hospital in critical condition, according to CNN. She died on Friday August 12, at the age of 53.

She suffered from serious injuries, including to the brain, and had been admitted to intensive care. In a coma since the accident, the actress had gradually lost all her brain functions. “She is legally deceased according to California law” but her heart continues to beat in order to be able to donate an organ, explained Holly Baird, the actress’ spokeswoman, to AFP. A press release had warned a few hours earlier that the 6 Days 7 Nights actress was in very critical condition and “kept alive to determine if some of her organs” were viable for donation, reports Le Monde.

Anne Heche was a cult actress of the 1990s, having played in many successful films such as Donnie Brasco, Return to Paradise or 6 days 7 nights alongside Harrison Ford. She also starred in the award-winning series Another World, a Daytime Emmy Award in 1991, and in Nip/Tuck. A very fine career for Anne Heche, who was in a relationship with presenter Ellen DeGeneres for several years in the late 1990s.

“Today we lose a radiant light, such a gentle and joyous soul, a loving mother and a loyal friend,” her family said in a statement. “Anne will be deeply missed, but her wonderful sons, her immense work and her passionate struggles will outlive her.”
