Canadian swimmers Sydney Pickrem and Mabel Zavaros have withdrawn from the upcoming World Aquatic Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.

Swimming Canada said Zavaros, 23, will miss the event with both shoulder injuries, while Pickrem, 26, withdrew “for personal reasons.”

Pickrem won bronze in the 4x100m individual medley relay at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, and she has won four career medals at the World Aquatics.

Zavaros, who began his career with the national team in 2018, made two finals last year at the Commonwealth Games.

Both swimmers are also part of the Canadian team that will participate in the Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, which will take place next October.

The Aquatic Worlds kicks off on Friday, and wraps up on July 20.
