The spring equinox often goes hand in hand with impressive tides. This year is no exception: indeed, the highest tides until September are expected this week. They will also be accompanied by strong gusts of wind, up to 101 km / h. Indeed, several active disturbances will circulate above the metropolitan territory in a south-westerly flow. They will pass through the northern Bay of Biscay, then head towards the English Channel and the North Sea.

The origin of these disturbances lies in the formation of a large low pressure system over the North Atlantic. The weather will be rough, even very rough, like the swell, until the end of the week, as La Chaîne Météo reports.

This evening of Wednesday March 22, the so-called “high tide” moment, the effect of strong tidal coefficients will be reinforced by a swell coming from the center of the Atlantic Ocean. There will then be a “surcharge”, that is to say an additional elevation of the sea: the elevation in question may reach 15 to 25 centimeters. There is therefore, on certain parts of the coast, a relative risk of flooding.

As Meteo-France indicates, we can speak of a storm “when the depression generates gusts greater than 90km/h”. In our slideshow below, discover all the departments where stormy winds are expected on Thursday March 9 and Friday March 10, 2023.
