(New York) Broadway and the touring theater community appear to have avoided a labor disruption like the one that silenced Hollywood’s film and television industry.

The Broadway League and Disney Theatrical Productions, which represent producers, and the International Alliance of Stage, Theater and Film Employees announced Thursday that they have reached a tentative agreement that threatened to call a strike as early as Friday.

About 1,500 workers – stagehands, hairstylists, makeup artists and costume designers – are directly covered by the tentative agreement, and are currently working on 28 Broadway productions and 17 on tour.

The agreement still needs to be ratified. In a joint statement, the negotiators said: “The respective parties will inform their members of the details of this agreement in the coming days. »

The deal has nothing to do with the strike rocking Hollywood. Leaders of the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) voted unanimously last week to begin a strike, joining the Writers Guild of America, which has been on strike since May 2.
