On March 6, the government announced that it was abandoning the anti-inflation basket and replacing it with an “anti-inflation quarter” measure, as reported by Le Figaro with AFP. Bruno Le Maire, Minister of Economy and Finance, spoke about the changes in measures after the end of discussions with the major distributors, all present with the exception of Michel-Edouard Leclerc, president of Leclerc. This abandonment of the anti-inflation basket is mainly due to disagreements with the giants of the sector and the industrialists who did not want to set it up.

Thus, Michel-Edouard Leclerc decided to act alone. He in turn launches the price freeze on 979 products on the shelves, as announced at the microphone of RTL. This freeze will be applied until June 30, 2023. This action comes at the time of the anti-inflation quarter launched on March 15 and effective until June 15, 2023. Several supermarkets have thus launched their anti-inflation basket, like by Leclerc.

Nevertheless, Michel-Edouard Leclerc clarified that it would only be Eco products. These correspond to the first price brand of the brand. All Leclerc stores are concerned. Moreover, this choice is justified by the fact that these are the products “which sell the most”. Many products from different departments are therefore affected by this gel. In Leclerc’s press release, the brand adds that “according to a price reference set on April 1, 2023, the increase in any of these 979 products will not be impacted by consumers during purchase and will be absorbed by the sign”. Products from other brands will therefore be able to continue to increase. Michel-Edouard Leclerc nevertheless refuses to offer the lowest prices.
