Bill Belichick will wait another day to talk about this new milestone victory for him. But at the very least it will calm discussions about its future.

A one-yard touchdown pass from Mac Jones to Mike Gesicki with 12 seconds left gave the New England Patriots a 29-25 victory over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, making Belichick the third head coach of NFL history to reach 300 wins in a regular season.

Belichick joins Hall of Famers Don Shula (328) and George Halas (318). Including the qualifiers, he has 331, behind Shula (347), but ahead of Halas (324).

“Well, that’s great,” Belichick said. I’m really more focused on our team and this year. We will focus on this later. »

Jones completed 25 of 30 passes for 272 yards and two touchdowns to help the Patriots (2-5) end a three-game losing streak. It was the second game-winning fourth-quarter comeback for Jones in three seasons.

During the losing streak, Jones was the victim of five interceptions without throwing a single touchdown pass.

“I still believe in myself,” Jones said. I’m not going to sit here and say it every time. But I believe in myself and I get there thanks to my work and all that. Your team is doing as your shift is doing. For me, it’s about continuing to be the same every day. »

Ezekiel Elliott reached the end zone with a run and rookie Chad Ryland added three field goals to hold off a second-half comeback by the Bills (4-3), who briefly took the lead in the fourth quarter.

Josh Allen connected with his receivers 27 times on 41 attempts for 265 yards, running for two majors. He also had an interception in the first quarter that led to the Patriots’ first touchdown.

The Bills struggled on third downs and scored touchdowns twice in four appearances in the penalty zone.

“As far as the pay zone goes, offensively we’re going there, we just need to get seven points,” Bills head coach Sean McDermott said. We have to put the finishing touches when the opportunity arises. »

Allen revealed that he wasn’t sure what kept the Bills from realizing their scoring chances in three games, as they dominated 63-59 in total points despite two losses. They only scored 10 total points in the first half during that stretch.

“I would like to know the answer, because we would have the solution now,” he argued. Our season is not over. It’s a long season. It’s looking pretty bleak right now, but we’ll get through this. »

Trailing 22-10 in the fourth quarter, the Bills needed just two minutes to put together a five-play, 75-yard drive. Allen found Stefon Diggs for 25 yards with 5:32 left.

On the Patriots’ next offensive sequence, Jones connected with Kendrick Bourne for nine yards, but Jordan Poyer made him lose the ball, which the Bills recovered at their opponents’ 29 line.

Allen then scored with a sneak and completed the two-point conversion to make it 25-22.

Jones’ game-winning drive began with a short pass to Rhamondre Stevenson that turned into a 34-yard gain. He then passed to Hunter Harvey for 14 yards on third down and eight yards, and the Patriots got a first down and the scores after six plays.

A Bills interference penalty put the Patriots at the one-yard line, and Jones threw to Gesicki on second down.

Patrick Mahomes passed for 424 yards for four touchdowns and the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Los Angeles Chargers 31-17 on Sunday.

Travis Kelce caught 12 passes for 179 yards and a touchdown. His teammate Marquez Valdes-Scantling caught three balls for 84 yards and a major. Rashee Rice and Isiah Pacheco also took advantage of aerial plays to reach the end zone and the Chiefs (6-1) won a sixth straight game.

The Chiefs led 24-17 midway through the fourth quarter when Mecole Hardman, returning to Kansas City in a trade with the New York Jets this week, returned a punt 50 yards. The Chiefs took advantage of good field position, and six plays later, Mahomes found Pacheco for the touchdown.

Justin Herbert, who faced the second-best defensive unit in points scored, passed for 259 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Joshua Palmer caught five passes for 133 yards and Joshua Kelley had seven carries for 75 yards and a major.

This season, the Chiefs relied on their defense to win with an offensive unit that struggled to find its rhythm. Mahomes and company finally found it in the first half.

After an initial streak that ended with a field goal, the 2022 league MVP finished three of four subsequent streaks with a touchdown pass.

The first was a 46-yard pass to Valdes-Scantling, the second to Rice, and the last was a short 1-yard pass to Kelce, who weaved his way through a group of defensive players into the end zone with 15 seconds left in the first half.

This last touchdown allowed Mahomes to finish the first half with 321 yards. It was the fourth time he surpassed the 300-yard plateau before halftime.

The Chiefs only led 24-17, however, since the Chargers also managed to score a few times.

After seeing his team tie the score with a field goal, Kelley had a 49-yard run early in the second quarter. Hebert then found Palmer 60 yards up the middle, before connecting with Gerald Everett in the end zone.

Younghoe Koo’s third field goal of the game, 51 yards, on the final play of the game saved quarterback Desmond Ridder and the Atlanta Falcons, now first in the NL South with a win of 16-13 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.

“In the end, we found a way,” Falcons head coach Arthur Smith said. Koo, as usual, plays big in important moments. Our players made big plays when needed. They’re a tough team. »

The Falcons (4-3) ended a streak of eight road defeats, ahead of the Buccaneers (3-3).

“It’s huge,” Ridder said. On the other hand, we obviously shouldn’t have to go that far. We made life difficult for ourselves, but in the end we came out on top and played as a team. No one started pointing fingers or blaming each other. »

Ridder committed three turnovers in the Buccaneers’ penalty area, including on a play that cost him a 12-yard rushing touchdown and would have given his team a 10-point lead with less than four minutes remaining in the game.

Ridder lost the ball on a quarterback sack as the Falcons wanted to take the lead just before halftime. The 24-year-old quarterback committed another turnover in the third quarter, on the play following Drake London’s 13-yard catch that put the Falcons at the Buccaneers one-yard line.

London almost got the middle finger on the play, but he didn’t appear to have full control of the ball as he stretched wide for the touchdown.

Following a lengthy review of the sequence, the play resumed at the one-yard line, and the Buccaneers rookie recovered the ball dropped by Ridder.

Ridder totaled 250 yards and had no interceptions. He put his team in good position for Koo’s winning field goal, after Chase McLaughin managed to tie the game for the Buccaneers with a 36-yard field goal in the final minute of play.

McLaughlin also made a 24-yard field goal earlier in the game.

Kyle Pitts had a 39-yard catch to put the Falcons in winning position late in the game.

Baker Mayfield threw for 275 yards, with one touchdown pass and one interception. Mike Evans scored the touchdown for the Buccaneers on a 40-yard reception in the first quarter.
