(Paris) Canadian Carol Zhao advanced to the second qualifying round at the French Open on Tuesday after struggling to defeat Poland’s Katarzyna Kawa 6-4, 5-7 and 6-1.

Zhao, 177th in the world, will have an appointment in the next round with the Czech Sara Bejlek, 180th in the world.

For her part, Ontario’s Katherine Sebov will begin her qualifying run a little later today at Porte d’Auteuil. Sebov, who is ranked 141st in the world, will then face Croatian Petra Marcinko.

On the men’s side, Quebecer Gabriel Diallo will begin his qualifying journey on French clay against Kazakh Timofey Skatov.

Zhao, Sebov and Diallo are trying to join their compatriots Bianca Andreescu, Leylah Annie Fernandez, Rebecca Marino, Félix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov in the main draw of this second major tournament of the season.
