Skyrocketing incidence rate, dangerous increase in the occupancy rate of intensive care beds by Covid patients… No doubt, the seventh wave of the pandemic is sweeping through France and risks bringing health measures back into the whole country. So far, the government has only recommended and encouraged the wearing of masks indoors, especially on public transport. The return to wearing the mask seems inevitable.

In any case, this is the opinion of the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, who issued an order to make the mask compulsory in public transport from Monday July 11. In question, the 200,000 new cases more and less than 24 hours in France of the BA.5 strain of Covid. “We can clearly see that we are on a seventh wave which is skyrocketing and which is taking us towards a high-risk return to school” explains the mayor of Nice to BFMTV to support his decision.

A decision that other mayors could take inspiration from by issuing an order to reinstate the compulsory wearing of masks also in their city’s transport. Indeed, other cities and departments are subject to high incidence rates and could, either by order of the town hall or by decision of the government, be forced to again impose the wearing of the mask.
