First dose, second dose, first booster…. And soon a fourth injection? For a year and a half now, the vaccination campaign against Covid-19 has been in full swing in France.

On June 9, 2022, 81.22% of the French population had received at least one dose of vaccine. But in view of the evolution of the epidemic, which seems to have been gaining ground again for a few days, it would seem that the coverage is not sufficient.

Two months ago, the government opened the fourth dose of vaccine for people over 60. Without much effect. In Franche-Comté, for example, only 9.2% of people over 60 received this second reminder, reports Est Républicain.

For its part, the High Authority for Health recommends extending this second booster dose to fragile people.

“In order to limit the impact of a future wave, particularly on the most vulnerable, it is essential to build a vaccine strategy now, ready to be deployed in the months to come”, recommends the institution in a communicated.

Especially since since the end of May, contaminations have started to rise again exponentially, the fault, both of the great virality of the new BA.4 and BA.5 sub-variants, but also of the general relaxation of barrier gestures to arrival of good weather.

On June 9, the national incidence rate was thus 206 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The number of cases is up 58% from the previous week.

Data that raise fears of the emergence of a new wave, and therefore, the development of new health measures.

Doctors are already calling for the vaccine strategy to be strengthened. There is “still time to get vaccinated and to have the complete schedule, the three doses, and perhaps the fourth dose, so as not to have to suffer from serious forms of Covid”, explained Professor Antoine Flahault, epidemiologist, on franceinfo on June 3.

For now, however, the fourth dose is only open to people over 60.

This second booster dose should be received:
