The minimum contribution is used for retirees from the general Social Security old-age insurance scheme who have contributed on low wages. It offers them the possibility of receiving a minimum amount of basic pension, called minimum contributory. If your basic pension is lower, it can thus be increased until it reaches the level of this minimum. What is the amount of the minimum contribution now?

The minimum contributory scheme is intended for people who have reached the legal retirement age and who have validated the number of quarters necessary for a full pension. It is intended to ensure a minimum amount of pension for pensioners with low income. Several people can benefit from it, in particular those entitled to a basic retirement pension from the general scheme at the full rate or those who have applied for all their basic and supplementary pensions.

Thanks to the increase in the Smic on January 1, 2023, the ceiling for personal pensions has changed. It is increased to 1309.75 euros per month, an increase of 35.99 euros. The accumulation of the basic pension and the supplementary pension cannot therefore exceed this ceiling. When you have contributed at least 120 quarters, this contributory minimum is 8970.87 euros gross per year, or 747.57 gross per month. If you have less than 120 quarters, it is set at 8209.62 euros gross per year, or 684.14 euros gross per month.
