While the pension reform was recently adopted and then promulgated, despite the reluctance of the French and the unions, it must now come into force from September 1st. In this context, various subtleties will modify the habits of future retirees and come to profoundly transform the system. If the taking into account of parental leave and its integration into the long career system are planned, it will however be necessary to be vigilant on the conditions to be respected in order to benefit from it. We take stock for you.

Despite the dispute, the pension reform will indeed be part of the daily life of the French from September. While pension funds are preparing, future retirees have started studies and simulations to find out precisely the conditions of their retirement. It must be said that the raising of the legal age to 64, provided for by the text, but also the increase in the duration of insurance, are not reassuring for a large number of them.

In this complex perspective, good news is however topical with the long career scheme, the premium reserved for mothers, as well as the creation of a minimum pension. Among all these measures, periods of parental leave will also be taken into account with 4 validated quarters, which can be integrated into the calculation. According to the government, this change should allow more than 3,000 women to retire earlier each year.

While this measure delights its beneficiaries, it is advisable to be cautious in the face of this new right granted. Indeed, it will not be able to concern all people who have taken parental leave, as explained by Valérie Batigne, director of the Sapiendo retirement firm, during a webinar organized by Capital.

In his words, taking parental leave into account will be “a little more complicated than what has been announced”. She thus explains that it will be especially the quarters contributed under the old-age insurance of stay-at-home parents (AVPF), which will have a real consideration, and not parental leave as it is understood.

In order to take advantage of this consideration, it will be essential to check your situation “on your career statement”. Thus, if when you took your parental leave, AVPF contributions were triggered, a maximum of four quarters may be included in the calculation of the long career scheme.

Otherwise, nothing changes for you and your parental leave will not allow you to obtain additional terms. For example, if you live as a couple and you receive the shared child education benefit (Prepare), your period of leave is automatically affiliated with the AVPF if you have at least two dependent children.
