With the many changes provided for by the pension reform, the French, and especially future retirees, have every interest in preparing for its implementation, scheduled for September 1st. On the program, raising the legal age by two years and increasing the duration of insurance will punctuate the weeks to come, while some retirees will have to deal with postponed retirement dates or even redemptions of quarters. Here are all our tips.

Since the beginning of the year, the pension reform has created a major debate around the need to change the system and has led to historic protest in the streets of the country. While the main lines of the reform have already been unveiled, a few subtleties remain to be known and it could be that the text still holds several surprises. It is therefore better to check, upstream, all its data and its situation to avoid problems.

For all future retirees, they will now have to work beyond the age of 62, but also contribute more. The first generations concerned are those born from September 1, 1961, who will therefore reach 62 years of age this fall, but will have to modify their starting date. At the same time, while the Touraine reform already provided for an increase in the contribution period, the new pension reform will accelerate the timetable. From September 1, 169 quarters will therefore be necessary for the full rate up to 172 at the threshold of the pension reform.

In the event that you have also applied for retirement for the fall of 2023, the liquidations currently being processed, which will start after September 1, will be disrupted. A decree of June 4, 2023 authorizes you, however, until October 31, 2023, to cancel your retirement application and submit it when you have reached the required 169 quarters.

Among the good news, know that you can also be reimbursed in the event that you have redeemed terms in order to be able to leave earlier. You will be able to file a request to this effect within two years from the promulgation of the law on April 14, 2023. We advise you, however, to carry out this process quickly to see your request taken into account.

In the list of points to be clarified, it has still not been specified whether the Agirc-Arrco supplementary pension, reformed in 2019, would be impacted by the pension reform. The social partners have made no announcement towards this prospect and there are still unknowns about the sustainability of the solidarity coefficient.

For women, in any case, the free quarters for children will, in turn, always be awarded. Eight will continue to be given per child. Finally, if you started working early, there will now be four long-career retirement ages. Depending on your situation, you can leave at 58, 60, 62 or 63.
