(New York) Carlos Mendoza was officially hired as manager of the Mets on Monday, after signing a three-year contract and receiving the mandate to revive the New York franchise after a disastrous 2023 season.

The 43-year-old will be introduced to members of the media Tuesday at Citi Field. His agreement includes an option year left at the discretion of the club for 2027.

Mets owner Steve Cohen and his wife Alex were the first to be named in the release confirming Mendoza’s hiring.

“Carlos is dynamic, passionate and it was easy to understand that he will have a very good relationship with both the veterans and the young players of the team,” they said in the press release.

Mendoza has spent the last four seasons across town, serving as Aaron Boone’s bench instructor with the New York Yankees.

He will succeed Buck Showalter, who was fired after a two-year stint at the Mets helm on the final day of the major league regular season.
