(Washington) U.S. President Joe Biden honored the Vegas Golden Knights, the reigning Stanley Cup champions, Monday morning during a ceremony at the White House.

The Golden Knights are the first team to visit the White House since the Tampa Bay Lightning in April 2022, when the team was honored for its titles in 2020 and 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Colorado Avalanche, who won the top honors in 2022, did not visit the White House last season due to a scheduling conflict.

The Golden Knights’ visit came as Joe Biden deals with U.S. involvement in the war between Israel and Hamas, and before he heads to San Francisco for a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping later this week.
