(TORONTO) The Toronto Maple Leafs signed forward Matthew Knies to a three-year entry-level contract on Sunday.

The contract begins in the current 2022-23 season and Knies will earn an average salary of US$925,000.

Knies is coming off a season of 21 goals and 21 assists in 40 games with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers.

A native of Phoenix, Arizona, Knies was selected in the second round, 57th overall, in the 2021 draft.

The 20-year-old Knies has 36 goals and 39 assists in 73 NCAA college games.

The towering forward had three assists in five games for the United States at the 2022 World Junior Hockey Championship. He also had a goal and an assist in four games at the Beijing Olympics.
