After the remuneration went from 0.5% to 1% on February 1, 2022, to 2% the following August 1 and to 3% on February 1, many of you were waiting for the second rate increase.

However, this will not take place, or at least not now. Indeed, the Banque de France did not offer Bercy an early increase in the Livret A rate while the texts gave it the possibility.

A decree of January 27, 2021 relating to the interest rates of savings products stipulates that in the event of an exceptional variation in inflation, it is possible to carry out an intermediate revaluation of the rate twice a year: on May 1 or November, 1st. However, the Governor of the Banque de France, who is the only one who can propose this revision, has not decided to do so and you will therefore have to wait until August 1 when the Livret A rate will drop to 3.5%. . In the meantime, its rate will remain stuck at 3%.

As Philippe Crevel, director of the Cercle de l’Epargne, explained to the newspaper LeParisien in mid-January: “a point increase in rates costs 5 billion at the Caisse des dépôts and the banks” per year. For the banks, with an outstanding of 500 billion euros, the consequences of the continuous increase in remuneration of the Livret A are therefore quite strong.
