The summer will not be easy for the French. On July 22, 2022, the national association Rural Families warned of “a record price level” for fruits and vegetables.

As indicated by a study by the Fruit and Vegetable Observatory, there is indeed an overall increase of 11% in one year in the cost of these foods. It is in particular the price of green watermelon that has risen the most: it is 40% higher in 2022 than in 2021.

Green pepper inflation stands at 37%. The vine tomato is more expensive by 31%. Similarly, the price of fishing is up 25%.

These are also not the only products more expensive this year than last summer. A multitude of foodstuffs have seen their prices rise, according to a report by the IRI institute. In addition, the price of pasta in supermarkets is more expensive: on average 15.31% more than in 2021. Similarly, frozen meats are at 11.34% and flour at 10.93%. %. Sunflower oil, meanwhile, is also experiencing strong inflation. Interviewed by TF1, Geneviève Louis Hooper, the general manager of the Intersnack company, explains that this ingredient has gone from 1,000 euros to 3,000 euros per ton.

The cost of products can be explained by various factors. On the one hand, the conflict in Ukraine has made multiple commodities more scarce. The products that remain available therefore become more expensive due to this scarcity, according to Au Féminin. On the other hand, it would be due to the episodes of drought observed around the world, as indicated by Grégory Caret, the director of the observatory of the UFC-que-Choisir, in the columns of Ouest-France. slideshow below, Planet has therefore produced the list of summer products which have increased since last year, according to Midi-Libre and TF1.
