A little air of nostalgia has blown through the music world in 2023. Just a few days apart, the Rolling Stones and the Beatles released unreleased material after many years of absence.

In the first case, Hackney Diamonds, released on October 20, is the band’s first album with Mick Jagger since 2005. It is, by extension, the group’s first work since the death of drummer Charlie Watts in 2021.

Two of the songs were recorded in 2019 with Charlie Watts. Steve Jordan, recommended by Watts to replace him, is behind the drums on the other tracks.

In the case of the Beatles, the song Now and Then was put together using artificial intelligence. John Lennon’s demo, recorded in the late 1970s, was completed after his death by the other members of the group.

The song quickly reached the top of the UK charts in early November. As of mid-December, the music video had been viewed 37 million times on YouTube.
