The Recording Academy has just announced the addition of three new categories for its upcoming Grammy Awards: Best African Performance, Best Alternative Jazz Album and Best Pop Dance Recording.

These new categories reflect a “commitment to listening to the community” and a desire to “stay aligned with the ever-changing landscape of music,” Harvey Mason Jr., President and CEO, said in a statement. from the Recording Academy.

In addition to these additions, there are a few other changes, according to Variety magazine. The Producer of the Year (Non-Classical) and Writer of the Year (Non-Classical) categories will now be part of the general field, meaning all Grammy award jurors will have voting rights. These categories were previously categorized as “Specialized”, which meant that only members working in those areas of expertise could vote.

The next Grammy Awards are scheduled to take place in early 2024.
