Tiger Woods showed he could walk for four days as a caddy for his son.

He now believes he is fit enough to try to play.

Woods announced on social media on Saturday that he will compete in the Hero World Challenge, beginning November 30.

The tournament will take place at the Albany Golf Club, Bahamas.

This will be his first competition since he withdrew before the third round of the Masters Tournament. He battled the wind and cold while playing with a damaged right leg at Augusta.

His company TGR announced its decision to benefit from a sponsor exemption.

The 20 players at the Global Challenge are among the top 50 in the world.

Woods can opt out of the requirement, being the tournament host.

Last week, Woods said his right ankle was no longer painful after it was fused during surgery in April after the Masters.

“My ankle is fine. Where they fused my ankle, I have absolutely no problem,” Woods said. This pain has completely disappeared. These are other areas that have been affected (by compensation). »

He compared it to lower back fusion surgery, adding that his L5 and S1 vertebrae were fine.

“The surrounding areas are where I had problems and still do,” he said.

“You fix one thing and other things have to become hyper-mobile, which can lead to some problems. »

Woods recently caddied for his son Charlie at the Notah Begay III Junior Championship, leading to speculation about a potential return to play.

Woods will compete in the Hero World Challenge for the first time since 2019.

The event was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic.

In February 2021, Woods seriously injured his right leg in a car accident near Los Angeles.

He returned a year later to Augusta, advancing to the weekend, then played two other major tournaments, including the British Open.

This year he only took part in the Genesis Invitational and the Masters Tournament, before having ankle surgery.

Woods has not won a tournament since the Zozo Championship in Japan in the fall of 2019. He triumphed at Augusta that year, adding a 15th major tournament to his record.

There is no qualification for the final two rounds of the Hero World Challenge.
