A grand total of 345,000 people passed through the gates of Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve to watch the Canadian Grand Prix last weekend. This is an attendance record for the Montreal event.

Formula 1 made the announcement on its social networks on Monday, the day after the race.

By comparison, last year, 338,000 people attended. It was also a record, after the event did not take place for two years due to COVID-19.

Unsurprisingly, it was the double world champion Max Verstappen who triumphed at the end of a race without much history on Sunday. It’s his second consecutive victory in Canada, his sixth of the season and his 41st career.

Fernando Alonso’s Aston Martin and Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes crossed the finish line in second and third place respectively.
