(New York) Martina Navratilova announced that she was cured of cancer.
The tennis legend made the announcement Monday on Twitter following what she said was a full day of treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
“Thank you to all the doctors, nurses, and proton and radiation magicians, among others,” she wrote.
Navratilova, 66, said she was diagnosed with throat cancer and breast cancer in January, and would begin treatment that month. She had been diagnosed with non-invasive breast cancer in 2010 and had undergone a lumpectomy.
Navratilova, an 18-time major tournament champion, noticed an enlarged lymph node in her neck in November and a biopsy revealed early-stage throat cancer. She was feeling well enough to return to television work at the Miami Open in March.
