(New York) Elon Musk warns he may need surgery ahead of his ‘cage match’ against Mark Zuckerberg.

The two tech billionaires apparently agreed on a face-to-face meeting at the end of June. It is not yet known if the physical fight will take place, but MM. Musk and Zuckerberg continued to fuel interest in this potential matchup by reviving online.

Last seen on Sunday, Musk said the fight would be streamed live on his social media site X, formerly known as Twitter.

Mr. Musk added that proceeds from the fight would be donated to a charity for veterans.

On his Threads account, Mr. Zuckerberg reacted: “Shouldn’t we use a more reliable platform that can raise funds for charity? »

In a later post, the CEO of Facebook’s parent company, Meta, said he was “not holding his breath” expecting a fight.

“I’m ready today. I suggested August 26 when he issued his first challenge, but he didn’t confirm,” wrote Zuckerberg, who is actually trained in mixed martial arts and posted about completing his first challenge. jiu-jitsu tournament earlier this year.

“I love this sport and will continue to compete with people who train no matter what happens here,” he said.

Earlier in the day on Sunday, Mr. Musk indicated that he was training for the fight by lifting weights. He then addressed the question of the date of the fight, stating that it was “still uncertain” due to a scheduled MRI and the possibility of surgery.

“I’m having an MRI of my neck and upper back tomorrow,” Musk wrote Sunday night. It is possible that surgery will be required before the fight takes place. We will find out this week. »

Talk of an in-person fight began in June, when Mr. Musk, who owns X, responded to a post from Meta that was preparing to launch a new Twitter rival called Threads.

He jabbed that the world was becoming “exclusively under Zuck’s thumb with no other options” — but one Twitter user then joked warning Mr. Musk about Mr. Zuckerberg’s jiu-jitsu training .

“I’m ready for a cage fight if he’s lol,” Mr. Musk wrote. After Mr. Zuckerberg appeared to accept the proposal, Mr. Musk proposed the Vegas Octagon.

It remains to be seen whether MM. Musk and Zuckerberg will indeed make it to the ring in Las Vegas, especially since Mr. Musk often tweets gestures that are premature or unaddressed.

But even though their cage fight deal is just a joke, the banter has caught the eye. An endless string of “choose your fighter” memes and posts have sprung up in response.
