The Kansas City Chiefs made an injury report late to prepare for the Week 11 match against the Dallas Cowboys.

S Tyrann Mathieu was added to the injury list by the Chiefs on Sunday. A knee injury will make him questionable for the game. Mathieu has been practicing full-time all week so this isn’t a new injury. ESPN’s Ed Werder reports that Mathieu had swelling in his knee overnight. He reported the issue to the team upon arriving at the stadium Sunday.

Mathieu started nine games as a strong safety for this season’s Chiefs. After being placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 roster, Mathieu missed Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns. He has 46 total tackles and two tackles for loss. He is a respected defensive leader who makes Steve Spagnuolo’s defense work.

Kansas City would suffer a huge loss if Mathieu is unable to participate. The secondary team is already dealing with injuries and absenteeisms. Armani Watts was deemed questionable due to missing the last practice of the week because of illness. L’Jarius is also questionable but is expected to play, having only practiced for a short time during the week.

Mathieu might not play, which would mean that the much-maligned veteran Daniel Sorensen will be taking more snaps as a defenseman this week. Sorensen has been a liability this season in coverage. It would be less ideal if Sorensen were to play more often against Dak Prescott or the No. The NFL’s No. 1 offense.
