(Montreal) Unifor members at CAE endorsed by 67% the agreement in principle that had been reached with the employer regarding the renewal of the collective agreement.

The agreement that was ratified concerns 515 workers who are members of Unifor Local Lodge 522, employees assigned to the production of flight simulators.

This is a five-year employment contract. The increases obtained are 6.5% for the year 2023, 4% in 2024, then 3% for the following three years, said the Unifor union, affiliated with the FTQ.

Before coming to this agreement, the union members had rejected the first employer offers by a proportion of 77% on June 17.

Then they voted in favor of a strike mandate by 98%. However, they did not have to use it to reach this agreement.

The Unifor Local points out that “the new collective agreement also includes other improvements to working conditions, including working hours, personal days, the early retirement program and paid leave in the event of family violence”.

“We are particularly proud of the gains achieved. Thanks to the support of the members, we were able to obtain the best possible contract and a wage increase of 19.5% for the duration of the collective agreement,” commented Jonathan Blais, national representative for Unifor Quebec.

Reached by email, CAE management had yet to comment as of this writing.
