The French automobile market is picking up after experiencing a slack period. As for the first six months of this year 2023, the market is on the right track. Indeed, new growth in new car sales reached 15%. In other words, no less than 878,000 new registrations were recorded according to data from AAAData. And the least we can say is that this month of June has been particularly productive. For the first time since 2021, nearly 190,000 units were sold, an increase of 12%.
In terms of engines, not much has changed. Gasoline remains in first position with market shares amounting to 38%, ahead of hybrids which obtain 31.8%. But a record has been broken by none other than electric. Electrified vehicles have accumulated a record level measured at 27%, and this only for the last month of June.
Regarding automotive players, Stellantis and Groupe Renault maintain their leading position this semester, holding 31.4% respectively, with a small increase of 1.8% compared to 2022, and 26% ( 16.5%) of the market. Other car brands, however, experienced greater growth over the same period as last year, such as Toyota (17.3%), Lexus (24%) or Maserati, which experienced an increase of 94.3% compared to 2022, according to L’Usine Nouvelle.
On the model side, while the Peugeot 208 progressed and experienced better sales at the start of the year, the Clio V showed up. Other competitors appear in the shadow of these two market leaders. The suspense is at its peak…
