(Flowery Branch) Guard Matt Hennessy’s season is over, which seems to open the door for Quebec’s Matthew Bergeron as a starter on the left with the Atlanta Falcons.

Hennessy is said to have a knee injury. He had to fight for the position of left guard. He has appeared in 41 games over the past three seasons, including 22 starts.

Athlete from Victoriaville, Bergeron was drafted in the second round last April, 38th overall. He played with Syracuse in the NCAA.

Hennessy suffered an unspecified injury on July 28, the third day of Falcons camp, while bouldering during a run. He hasn’t trained since.

Coach Arthur Smith limited himself to saying that it is related to a health situation that occurred last year. Hennessy was placed on the disabled list in November with a kneecap problem in his left knee.

The Falcons’ preseason schedule has games remaining on Aug. 18 and 24 against Cincinnati and Pittsburgh, respectively.

The club will open the regular season on September 10 at home against the Carolina Panthers.
