(New York) The NHL will change the format of its skills competition scheduled for All-Star Game weekend in February in Toronto.

The league said 12 star players will compete in eight different events at the end of which they will accumulate points. The player who finishes the competition with the most points will get their hands on a check for US$1 million.

The events will be those of the fastest skater, the most powerful shot, puck handling, one-timer, passing challenge, precision shooting, shootout and obstacle course.

Details on the player selection process will be revealed later, the NHL said in a statement.

The skills competition featured events on a golf course and at the beach last year in Florida.
