The Victoriaville Current Music Festival (FIMAV) has a new general and artistic director. It will be the Ontarian Scott Thomson. The latter takes over from Michel Levasseur, who had been in office since the very first edition in 1983.

Trombonist, composer and producer, Scott Thompson, among other things, founded the performance hall Somewhere There, in Toronto. He has been at the head of the Guelph Jazz Festival since 2017 and has already participated in FIMAV as a musician.

In a statement on Tuesday, he promised to “preserve the special character” of the festival while “gradually imprinting” its own “signature”. We will know in a few months what this “signature” looks like.

FIMAV notably introduced artists like John Zorn, Bill Frisell and Fred Frith to the Quebec public, as well as a whole generation of local avant-garde, such as René Lussier, Jean Derome or Martin Tétreault.
