(PHILADELPHIA) The Philadelphia 76ers hired former Toronto Raptors Nick Nurse as head coach on Monday, according to a source familiar with the news.

The source disclosed the information to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity on Monday as the team had yet to confirm the hire.

Nurse led the Raptors to the NBA championship in 2019, after knocking out the 76ers in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

Nurse will replace Doc Rivers, who was fired from the team after leading the 76ers to a second straight 50-game season under guard Joel Embiid, who was voted most valuable player to his team. Rivers, however, was unable to lead his club to the association final.

In five seasons at the helm of the Raptors, Nurse posted a 227-163 record. His .582 winning percentage is the best in Raptors history.

Nurse also served as an assistant coach for five seasons with the Raptors, while Dwane Casey was the lead. He then took charge of the team.
