Because its agreement with the City of Laval is ending, the Illumi team announced Thursday that the current edition will be the last. The concept will move to California.

In a press release, the Quebec company Cavalia explains that it has made “attempts at negotiations” with the City of Laval, but that the latter has not given its agreement to extend the agreement which would have made it possible to maintain the event in Laval. .

The current edition – the fifth – will end on January 7. This is therefore the “last chance” to enjoy this activity, which allows visitors, by car or on foot, to discover 19 paintings illuminated by 25 million LED bulbs. Since its first edition in 2019, Illumi has attracted 2 million visitors.

At the same time, Cavalia announced that after Laval and Toronto, Illumi will be presented in Los Angeles, California, and that details will be announced after the holiday season.

The City of Laval explains that it was planned, in the 2019 agreement, that the land would be released by September 2024. The land in question belongs to the City, and it will accommodate Carré Laval, “a mixed innovation district » with a carbon-neutral aim including a park, a body of water and real estate projects.

“Geotechnical analyzes must be held from the fall of 2024 on the land currently occupied and the nature of these studies is incompatible with occupation or activities on the site,” explains, in an email, Jonathan Lévesque, public affairs advisor at the City of Laval.
