(St. Petersburg, Florida) Iga Swiatek on Monday became the first tennis player since Serena Williams to be named WTA Player of the Year two years in a row.

Williams, who retired last year, was player of the year from 2012 to 2015, the last four of her seven crowns in total.

Swiatek has compiled a 68-11 record in 2023, winning a tour-high six titles, including the French Open in June. She finished number one in the world for a second consecutive season.

The 22-year-old Pole ended her season by winning the WTA Finals in Cancun last month, regaining the world No. 1 ranking from Aryna Sabalenka. Swiatek held this first place from April 2022 until last September, before snatching it from Sabalenka.

His coach, Tomasz Wiktorowski, was named coach of the year. The Ukrainian Elina Svitolina was voted as the player who made the greatest comeback. Finally, Russian Mirra Andreeva was named newcomer of the year.
