(Toronto) Canada will likely have to do without Shane Wright at the World Junior Hockey Championship this winter.

The 19-year-old forward is eligible for the tournament, but Seattle Kraken general manager Ron Francis said he doesn’t expect to see the prospect play with the Canadian team.

During a press scrum at the “PrimeTime sports” conference on Monday, Francis added that the World Juniors were in the past for Wright.

Francis said he was in contact with Hockey Canada.

Wright was the captain of the Canadian team last winter when it won gold in Halifax.

The Kraken’s 2022 first-round pick, fourth overall, Wright has had an up-and-down start to the professional ranks. He had one goal and one assist in 10 NHL games.
