(Budapest) Canada’s Marco Arop earned his spot in the men’s 800-metre semifinals on Tuesday at the World Athletics Championships.

Arop finished first in his heat with a time of one minute 45.05 seconds. His time ranked him second in the overall prelims table.

The 24-year-old runner from Edmonton won bronze last year at worlds. He then became only the second Canadian to win a medal in this event at the Worlds, after Gary Reed, silver medalist in 2007 in Osaka, Japan.

The 800-metre semi-finals are on Thursday, followed by the final on Saturday.

In other results on Tuesday, Saskatchewan’s Michelle Harrison qualified for the semifinals in the women’s 100-metre hurdles. She clocked 12.88 seconds.
