The Canadian Soccer Players Association has clarified information regarding the tentative agreement between the women’s team and Canada Soccer reached in July.

In a statement released Wednesday, the ACJS says the compensation the players will receive in 2023 under the agreement is “significantly greater” than the base compensation received in 2021 and is “not zero” dollars.

According to the agreement, Canada Soccer has also committed to “filling all FIFA international windows for the Women’s National Team in 2023”.

In addition, separate compensation will be given to players who have recently participated in the Women’s World Cup and it will be higher than the minimum required by FIFA for a team eliminated from the preliminary phase.

The ACJS had issued a statement on July 28 which mentioned that the players had to choose between compensation or the financing of camps, due to financial constraints of Canada Soccer.

In the clarification on Wednesday, the ACJS specifies that the choice to fund the camps does not mean that the players will not receive compensation at all.

The July statement also mentioned that the players had to choose between compensation equal to that of the members of the men’s team or receiving “a reasonable share” of the purse for their successes at the World Cup, while adding that the players would receive “at a minimum” salary equivalent to members of the men’s team.
