The Centaur Theater unveiled its 2023-2024 lineup Thursday evening, titled “Building the Future at Centaur.”

Indeed, next season will be one of transformation and reconstruction to relaunch this Old Montreal theater on new foundations, literally and figuratively. Because the Anglo-Montreal company will launch a first phase of renovations to its historic building. Work will begin this summer.

“The renovation of our main hall (Centaur 2) will be a major transformational opportunity for us, as we will not only increase the creative capacity of our theater, but we will renew our commitment to make Centaur a place of hospitality. of the best theatrical productions in Montreal,” artistic director Eda Holmes said in a statement.

“Our ever-changing world is changing rapidly. I will ensure that the Centaur continues to present on stage a plurality of voices, in all their singularity. »

The season will open on October 17 with the English production of alterNatives, directed by Xavier Huard and written by author Drew Hayden Taylor. An irreverent comedy from one of Canada’s greatest Indigenous playwrights, known as the “Native Neil Simon”.

“Drew Hayden Taylor brings his legendary wit and cultural perspective to this ironic look at contemporary social dynamics,” summarizes the statement from Menuentakuan, the company producing the play.
