2022, the year of all summer records? In June, France was already facing an extremely early heat wave during which the mercury had reached peaks in the four corners of the country. In addition, this same month turned out to be the most struck by lightning since the start of the Météorage surveys, the world specialist in lightning detection, in 1989.

But the month of July is not left out, far from it! A second heat wave, which occurred in mid-July, proved historic in terms of its regional intensity… Particularly in the western part of France, where a good number of absolute records were broken. We recorded, among others, 39.3°C in Brest (Finistère), 41.4°C in La Roche-sur-Yon (Vendée) and 42.6°C in Biscarrosse (Landes).

Will the month of August also achieve its share of exploits? In an exchange with Planet.fr, meteorologist Pascal Daviner predicts high temperatures in the coming weeks. “There could be a period of heat wave or a heat wave in the first ten days, quite persistent over the southern half of the country”, he continues, recalling that this meteorological summer should show temperatures “1.2 to 2 degrees at above normal for the season”.

In some departments, the weather forecasts already announce high temperatures for the beginning of August. Find out which ones in our slideshow below. The information provided is based on Météo France forecasts for Monday July 25, 2022 at 3 p.m. and is subject to change.
