(Vancouver) Team World won the Laver Cup for a second time in a row on Sunday at Rogers Arena.
Americans Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe defeated Pole Hubert Hurkacz and Andrey Rublev 7-6 (7), 7-6 (7) to confirm their team’s victory.
The World Team won the tournament last year, which drew a line under the professional career of the legendary Roger Federer.
Team World took a 10-2 lead on Saturday to put themselves in a good position to keep the trophy in their possession.
The opening doubles match on Sunday featured several strong rallies. Shelton even made a shot behind him in the second game.
Both sets required a tiebreaker, keeping Team Europe in the hunt for a second victory at the three-day tournament.
But Hurkacz missed a drop shot to give the World Team victory. The Pole threw his racket onto the court and looked visibly furious after missing the opportunity.
