(Toronto) The Toronto Maple Leafs placed defenseman John Klingberg on the long-term injured list Thursday, and they recalled forward Alex Steeves from their American Hockey League farm club.

Klingberg, who is 31, has five assists in 14 games this season with the Maple Leafs. Details of Klingberg’s injury have not been revealed, but the Swede is said to be bothered by a hip injury.

Klingberg signed a one-year, $4.15 million contract with the Maple Leafs last July.

He scored 10 goals and had 23 assists in 67 games last season with the Anaheim Ducks and Minnesota Wild.

Steeves had 18 points (11-7) in 14 games with the Toronto Marlies this season.
