(Oberhofen) The International Ski Federation has maintained its policy excluding Russian and Belarusian skiers ahead of the new season.

“The current FIS policy, which does not allow the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials in FIS events, will remain in force until further notice,” the federation announced on Wednesday, in a summary of the decisions of its board of directors.

The decision was announced as the first Alpine Skiing World Cups take place this weekend in Sölden, Austria.

The FIS banned Russian and Belarusian skiers from international skiing and snowboarding competitions shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022.

The International Olympic Committee is in favor of the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in international competitions under a neutral banner in order to allow them to qualify for the Paris Olympic Games next summer. However, the IOC has not decided on their participation in the Olympic Games.
