(Washington) US President Joe Biden said the Kansas City Chiefs “built a dynasty” as the Super Bowl champions visited the White House on Monday.

At the traditional ceremony, Biden praised the team for playing with “genuine passion for the sport and showing love among teammates and for the city they represent.” He also highlighted the work the team does in the community, saying “these guys understand football, but they also understand how to use their platform to make a difference.”

Biden cracked a joke saying that his wife, Jill, who is a Philadelphia Eagles fan, has yet to recover from the dramatic end to the game. The game was marked by a controversial penalty against the Eagles that set the stage for the Chiefs’ game-winning field goal. The president added that he “must be careful with” his words, even though his spouse is not currently in the United States.

A moment of silence was held to mark the passing of Norma Hunt on Sunday. She was the wife of the late Chiefs founder, Lamar Hunt. Biden offered his condolences to the Hunt family.

Super Bowl MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce presented JoeBiden with a personalized Chiefs jersey. The team also took a photo with the president.

Prior to the ceremony, the team participated in a tour of the White House.
