Will Cody Fajardo have to be away longer than expected? Anyway, the Montreal Alouettes announced Monday the hiring of 24-year-old quarterback Reece Udinski.

Udinski played for the Richmond University Spiders in 2022. The American completed 377 passes on 514 attempts, collecting 3,612 yards and 29 majors. He received the award for the best footballer in Virginia in addition to being a finalist for the Walter-Payton Trophy, awarded to the offensive player of the year in the United States.

The six-foot-four, 224-pound footballer attended Seattle Seahawks mini-camp.

The signing comes after Fajardo had to miss his first game with the Alouettes on Friday against the Saskatchewan Roughriders due to a left shoulder injury the previous week against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

In his absence, Caleb Evans led the Alouettes’ offense, which mostly relied on their ground game: Evans attempted just 13 passes, eight of which were taken for 149 yards and a touchdown against an interception .

The Alouettes (5-3) will visit the Ottawa Redblacks (3-6) on Saturday and hold their first practice session on Tuesday.

Jason Maas’ team will then try to sign a fourth consecutive victory. The Red and Black will seek to find the way to victory after three losses in a row.
